Why?! Why hasn’t the solution been more obvious?! Make books the size of portable electronics!!!
Heck right now I’m reading a book the size of an iPad when the book is fully open!! I can hold the book comfortably in my large hands!
I’m actually having to have the book lifted to me so I can READ it and INDULGE IN THE TEXT in other words…. I’m glued to my book! Reading on paper!!
The key here is that they need to be hardcover! Why?! The book also can become a FASHION STATEMENT PIECE depending on the embossing and style of the hardcover!!! Reading IS COOL! (Reading is not cringe! Reading isn’t just for nerds!)
You can have small stories fit comfortably in this smaller text layout.
I’d imagine when this habitual motion of opening a book becomes second nature, thicker, more complex stories written in paperback will become fashionable too. Used book stores will be like the thrifting shops back in the 2010s, the comeback of hipster culture sans the hipster cringe. Instead of blogs and likes we’re talking about BOOKS ON PAPER.
I’m so excited I have a relationship with some local printers maybe I should ask them more information about a campaign and their processing capacity!!! Sigh… if only money wasn’t such a blatant problem…. I can’t do it all on my own… kinda like society has to also be receptive to an analogue change and for them to also be accustomed to reading again, because reading is a skill!!!! That’s why I say short stories and novellas, stuff that’s short, easy to read, and copyright free and then make it PORTABLE.
You can’t tell me this isn’t a restoration of the Library of Alexandra. AI garbage is here to stay (thanks silicone valley); however, there’s hope! We need to learn how to read, and read from actual PEOPLE.

What a wonderful proposition!!! Can you imagine all the potential positive PR too, like…. “<company> supports education!” Because, honey, the chips are down for teachers across the country. These kids WANT to learn but don’t know HOW to learn!!! Baby steps, drip feed, and slow acclimation to a more literate population who doesn’t become immediately emotionally reactive at the slightest headline and can actively critique and engage with the piece (again, skills!)
There is still hope! Let’s make reading books fun, cool, and engaging! Let’s make PHYSICAL BOOKS the thing that glues everyone together, not social media, not the news, not AI!!
